Ok, well, not bad.
Sarah did a good job, Biden was Biden.
It would have been a wash, except all week the journo’s have been trying to portray Palin as, at best a neophyte and at worst an idiot.
No one expected much from Biden and he delivered…not much.
So, minor win for Palin.
Not a game changer either way, as a debate.
I still think Palin was a great choice for Veep.

Joe did not make any obvious gaffes. Iffil did not ask any gotcha questions. Sarah did not do well, IMO. Her intros were off base. Her statements were grammatically off- seriously backwards over and over again. and she said ” the toxic mess on Main Street effecting Wall Street”. I was not impressed.

Oh, except for that part where she knocked his ass over on Afganistan and McClellen.
On foreign policy, which is supposed to be Biden’s strong suit.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Well played, Gov. Well played, indeed.

That was her best section. She knew McClellan’s name and what he was talking about and what was wrong with it.

K8 –
I’m pretty much with you. And why didn’t Palin pound on the Congress’ culpability in the sub-prime mess when she had a perfect opening?!?!?

Kate – I gave both of them room for nerves. More for Palin because she is new to a national audience.
Many of her statements were awkward, but she got her points across and wasn’t as vague as I thought she might be.
So, I stand by good job. She didn’t muff it, anyway.

Because she was told to change the subject to energy. Bad advice IMO!

Kate – I missed that one!
Heh.
But, I think that one was just nerves and trying to get his point out in a hurry.
‘Bosniacs’ was my personal favorite.

Fox’s guinea pig group, supposedly half Bush/half Kerry in 2004 went almost all for Palin winning the debate.

Interesting.
The undecided voters in the Luntz(sp) gallery think Palin did very well. They loved her.

On CNN, they’re debating whether it’s Gen. McClellen or Gen. McKiernan(sp).
Either way, she got the story right and Biden didn’t.

Hmmm. Overall, I say good job on Sarah’s part but I was also not that unimpressed with Biden. Given the limitations of this whole debate format which is complete and utter bullshit, neither of them could do too much.
Comment by sekrit agent Mom
October 2, 2008 @ 7:49 pm
Biden never dared to come up with a name. I think the point of his bringing it up was partly to show she was uninformed and she blew him out of the water by knowing and using the name.

Palin isnt running for president but she is the only one keeping McCain in the race. Tonight, her performance kept him in the race, but it’s up to McCain to win the damn thing.
Tomorrow is another day-if McCain decides to use Palin wisely, he can get her out on the campaign trail and make better use of her than he has in the last three weeks.

We’ll see Harper-he ought to just stake her to 4-5 issues that she can hammer Obama on and let her go. There’s legitimate policy differences that she could take on-guns, energy, etc-that she’s already up to speed with, and let her go. Hell, theyre losing with what they are doing now-kick the table over and let the chips fall where they may. They werent expected to win this thing anyhow. I mean, what else is he going to do: announce that he’s picking a dwarf as his Secretary of State?

Meh, it’s not about Reason. It’s about GOTV. Enthusiasm. Broken-glass determination to cast that ballot.
There was substance there tonight, but it was a much more engaging debate (until almost the end when it started to drag). And Biden sighed loudly enough to give SNL some material to work with.

Kate – I didn’t get to watch it, I just listened online (still at work). Agreed about Biden. I was also laughing at Palin’s “Bush School of Diction” delivery – even down to “Nukular.” I guess she IS a continuation of Dubya.
I came away thinking she wouldn’t be “ready to lead on day 1″ but that in the past four weeks she’s shown herself capable of getting up to speed in a hurry. Meanwhile, Biden’s been in Washington since the McKinley years and he shows no capacity to learn from (let alone acknowledge) his mistakes. I could see a President Palin four years down the road; Pres. Biden? not so much.
She bested Quayle in 1988, anyway, not looking overwhelmed in the face of the folksy old guy. Not great, but exceeded expectations. Even Andrew Sullivan’s best shot is “stupid Gwen Ifill.”

Good comment from a Reason poster:
Exxon/Mobil makes much profit on a gallon of gas? The federal government takes in how much on the same gallon? I believe it’s something like $0.07 to $0.40, yet Biden begrudges every cent Exxon gets to keep. The US has one the least competitive corporate tax structures of any nation in the world, and it is hurting our economy. Do you think anything will be done to improve that situation under an Obama regime?
This is what I wanted Palin to come back with!

I think they both did good. I liked Palin better, but Palin missed quite a few opportunities. I think she was concentrating too hard on what she would say next instead of listening to him and countering his outright lies.. they flew right past her. Biden came of as a masterdebaiter..hehehehe but he lied. It was obvious. What I hate most about the debates is the after debate commentary where the media assholes try to tell all of us stupid people how to think. It’s ridiculous. I saw the debate, I dont need some fancy suit to tell me what I saw and heard. I dont need an interpretation or their spin on it. I turned it off and watched School of Rock instead.
